Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has on Friday been inoculated with the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 COVAX vaccine.
Sanwo-Olu was given the AstraZeneca jab at the Infectious Disease Hospital, (IDH) Yaba in the presence of officials from the World Health Organisation and other international health organisations’ officials.
After his vaccination, the governor reiterated that “the vaccine has been declared safe by the WHO and I want to encourage everyone to take it as we begin vaccination in Lagos.”
Speaking further, he reaffirmed that the state government will vaccinate frontline health workers first, as earlier stated by the Health Commissioner, Professor Akin Abayomi.
“Over the next couple of days, we will be vaccinating our frontline health workers at 3 centres to ensure we are protecting our selfless and hardworking frontline heroes,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu continued by highlighting the process of the vaccination for Lagosians during the first phase which kicked-off today.
“To manage the process, we have set up a team of healthcare, distribution and security professionals.
“Vaccination will begin at 88 designated locations for Phase 1 which consists of medical workers, police, military, laboratory, port health, judiciary and rapid response teams,” he added.
