The Federal Government has appointed Dr. Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa as the new Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
A Fellow of the West Africa College of Physicians in Paediatrics, Adetifa is a Netherland-trained epidemiologist.
His appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Monday.
Adetifa replaced the outgoing DG of the agency, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who will assume his new position as the Assistant Director-General of Health Emergency Intelligence at the World Health Organisation on November 1, 2021.
Until his recent engagement, Ihekweazu had been in the office as the NCDC boss since 2016.
He will be in charge of WHO’s pandemic and epidemic response hub in Berlin, Germany.
